In June 2020, ETERN officially released the SFP28 MWDM optical module. This high-performance product is purpose-built for the Open-WDM: MWDM system, supporting China Mobile's 5G fronthaul semi-active network architecture.
Architectural & Operational Highlights:
- 12-Wavelength Capacity: By reusing the first 6 wavelengths of 25G CWDM and integrating an active Thermo-Electric Cooler (TEC), the channel count is doubled to 12 channels, significantly saving fiber resources and reducing infrastructure construction costs.
- Advanced OAM Management: Leveraging optical-layer top-adjustment (over-the-top modulation) technology to perform robust OAM operations, enabling active system queries, remote configurations, and automated fault reporting.
- Network Operation Efficiency: Provides a systematically verifiable, controllable, and manageable fronthaul topology equipped with flexible deployment, rapid fault localization, and comprehensive optical-layer protection mechanisms.
The Open-WDM: MWDM solution represents a comprehensive, systematic upgrade to existing 5G fronthaul technology, establishing a pivotal new direction for the ongoing construction and scaling of next-generation global telecom infrastructure.
Joint Verification & Operator Recognition
During the Q1 phase of 2020, ETERN was closely invited to collaborate in pre-standard formulation and intensive system pilot testing alongside major telecom operator partners. Throughout these combined multi-vendor joint debugging tests, ETERN’s MWDM series components successfully earned full technical recognition from top-tier equipment manufacturers.
Currently, validated engineering samples of both ETERN's amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) MWDM solutions have been actively supplied to leading semi-active equipment suppliers for finalized network qualification and commercial certificate testing.
